My SB-900's are making squeaking noise and maybe overheating!!!? I have two Nikon SB-900 flashguns that I use for off camera flash. One is on my Nikon D300 and the other one on a stand with the Lastolite Ezybox on it.
My question is:
When i am taking pictures the flashguns make a squeaking noise and then start beeping. I think they are overheating or something. Why is this? What am I doing wrong? I have only taken like five to ten pictures and it does this.
Please HELP!!!!

lensmen2 replied: "All of my electronic flashes have made a 'squeaking' noise, but more like a whine, as they re-charge up from power on and shot to shot. A few actually beep, softly when exposures were made and the re-cycling started again.
The getting warm may or may not be a issue. Mine have become rather warm in a number of close spaced shots, just as a radio, TV or other electronic device may get warm when on or used. However, if your nose tells you something is burning and you smell hot electronics, and you will know this, then shut things off and have them looked at.
Better to be safe than sorry.

Isaac E replied: "are you talking about the sound when it is a high pitched whine that steadily gets higher pitched and then stops?
This is the sound a flash makes when it recharges. It does this when it turns on and every time you use a high power flash.
If it is as i described everything is absolutely fine!
Enjoy your flashgun!"
Where is the best site or place (In London) to go to learn about the Nikon SB-900 Flashgun? Hello all.
I am a bit stuck as i don't really know how to use the SB-900 flashgun?
Everytime i keep using the thing it keeps overheating. I have two of these thing and the same with the other. I must be doing something wrong.
Please any help, vidoe link, websites, etc. I need to learn about these units.
Ara57 replied: "Google SB900 overheating and you will find this is an issue. Or call Nikon. You can also disable the overheat cut-off in the flash which I believe many people have done. In your flash manual you will find how to do that."
My SB-900's temperature is rising!? I asked this question but wanted to add more to it:

The icon that appears on the screen is the thermal sign; which means that the SB-900's temperature is rising and the sb-900 may be damaged.
What am i doing wrong?
Please HELP!!!!
So what is the best way to learn how to use the units?

What am i doing wrong?
I doubt YOU are doing anything wrong. If the unit(s) are over heating they must be defective, something inside is going bad or "something"...
I would find a local camera repair facility and take them to them to have them checked out. It would be a waist of their time (and yours) to call them asking - What am i doing wrong?
They won't have a clue over the phone and even if they did, they will have to have the patients IN their office and most likely ON the operating table.
- They are Nikon Factory Authorized Repair. They can't do 'everything' in their shop and sometimes things need to be shipped back to Nikon in NJ for service, but I would have "someone" look at them fast before they burn up entirely.
Even if someone here had the exact same problems with their SB900, and told you their prob was the high voltage capacitor and the tirade cross over relay, would you be able to 'fix it' and even find the parts..?
Get them in to a service center before their gone...

PS - Who knows, maybe Nikon will fix them under a warranty or something.."
gryphon1911 replied: "OK, either one of two things are happening. The first scenario is like what the kind gentleman from Tuscan is telling you and the flashes are defective and need to be returned.
The other scenario is that you have no idea how to use flashes and are running them at full power and firing them off too fast. This can also cause an overheating problem. Most of this is explained in the manuals."
